Rumi is an extraordinary coffee grown in the Chontali area of Cajamarca, Peru, where Santos Marrufo and Luciano Perez meticulously cultivate and process their harvests on their 7.5-hectare farms. Located just three hours from Jaén, this region is known for its rocky terrain, reflected in the coffee’s name—“Rumi,” derived from the Quechua word for “stone”—symbolizing the resilience of both the landscape and the farmers’ dedication.
At elevations ranging from 1,800 to 1,900 meters, the coffee trees flourish under the shade, developing vibrant and complex flavor notes. The farmers cultivate a mix of Bourbon, Catuaí, and Caturra varieties, recognized for their sweetness and balance. The cherries are allowed to ripen to a deep grape color before harvesting, enhancing the natural fruit characteristics of the beans.
Using the fully washed process, the coffee undergoes an average fermentation time of 20 hours, followed by shade-drying in a solar dryer. This careful post-harvest method refines the cup’s clarity, preserving its bright acidity and floral undertones.
A delicate and aromatic coffee with vibrant strawberry and tangerine notes, complemented by the floral sweetness of hibiscus and a rich honeyed body. Hints of juicy pear add to its smooth finish, making Rumi a refined and well-balanced choice for those who appreciate elegant and fruit-forward coffees.
