Kenya - Ruera Estate

Tropical & Bright Coffee – Ruera Estate, Kenya | SCA Score: 86

Located in the lush landscapes of Kiambu, Ruera Estate spans over 190 hectares dedicated to coffee production, providing employment to more than 1,000 local workers throughout the coffee season. Positioned at 1,550 meters above sea level, the estate benefits from nutrient-rich red volcanic soils and a climate marked by two distinct rainy seasons, ensuring ideal conditions for coffee cultivation.

At Ruera, the focus is on quality and sustainability at every step. Manual harvesting ensures that only the ripest cherries are selected. Once picked, the cherries undergo meticulous sorting before being pulped using Pinhalense and Mackinnon equipment, designed to preserve bean integrity and prevent over-fermentation.

Natural processing is followed by careful sun drying on raised beds, where beans are dried to a precise moisture content of 10–11% for optimal storage and flavor preservation. Ruera Estate’s commitment to excellence and environmental stewardship includes reforestation projects, energy conservation, responsible waste management, and soil erosion prevention.

Crafted from a blend of classic Kenyan varieties — SL28, Ruiru 11, Batian, and K7 — this lot has earned prestigious recognition, securing 1st place in the Natural Coffees category at the Kenya National Taste of Harvest 2024–2025.

Tasting Notes:
A tropical and refreshing cup, bursting with juicy passion fruit, sweet strawberry, and a bright twist of grapefruit acidity. Perfect for those who love lively, fruit-forward coffees with a crisp, clean finish.
