Tanzania – Korongo

Floral & Bright Coffee - Korongo,Tanzania | SCA Score 85

Korongo is a vibrant washed coffee from the Southern Highlands of Tanzania, cultivated by smallholder farmers working alongside Sucafina Tanzania across the regions of Mbozi, Mbeya, and Mbinga. Named after the Swahili word for flamingo, Korongo reflects the elegance and brightness of its namesake, offering a consistently lively and satisfying cup profile.

Grown at altitudes ranging from 1,600 to 1,900 meters on small farms averaging between 0.5 to 2 hectares, this lot features a diverse mix of Blue Mountain, Bourbon, SL28, and Typica varietals. Farmers often intercrop coffee with staple crops like corn, beans, and ginger, contributing to food security and biodiversity.

Harvested by hand at peak ripeness, cherries are processed directly on farms using traditional washed methods. After pulping and fermentation, the beans are dried on raised beds for 14 to 20 days under the sun. Once rested in cooperative warehouses, the parchment is milled in Mbozi or Mbinga and sorted for quality and size this AB lot includes beans measuring 6–7 mm.

Korongo is part of the Sucafina Originals line and is IMPACT verified, meeting responsible sourcing standards across carbon reduction, human rights, regenerative farming, living income, and anti-deforestation benchmarks. It’s a coffee that not only tastes good, but also supports farmer resilience and environmental sustainability.

Tasting Notes:
A clean, well-balanced cup with rich notes of dark chocolate and black tea, lifted by vibrant acidity and delicate floral touches of hibiscus and lemon. Korongo showcases Tanzania’s signature profile - sweet, bright, and full-bodied.
