Vibrant and Bright
Grown in the highlands of Kayanza at 1,650–1,950 MASL, this Burundi coffee comes from the Gakenke Washing Station, where over 2,600 smallholder farmers contribute carefully harvested cherries from tiny plots. Produced from Bourbon varieties and fully washed, this lot reflects the structured processing and quality focus that define Burundi’s top washing stations.
At Gakenke, cherries are centrally processed, sorted, and fermented to enhance clarity and balance, resulting in a clean and expressive cup. The region’s altitude, fertile soils, and cool climate contribute to the coffee’s vibrant acidity and layered sweetness.
The cup opens with delicate chamomile aromatics, evolving into soft persimmon (kaki) sweetness as it cools. A lively malic acidity brings freshness and structure, complemented by notes of dates and panela. The silky body ties everything together, delivering an elegant and refined profile.
Tasting Notes: Chamomile, persimmon (kaki), and panela, with bright acidity and a smooth, silky texture.
