Rich and Sweet – Nicaragua Coffee

Nicaragua María de Lourdes Natural is a characterful specialty coffee produced at Finca Santa María de Lourdes, a remarkable mountain estate with a long and meaningful history. Owned by Octavio Peralta since 1970, the farm spans 80 hectares, half of which are dedicated to preserving native forest and biodiversity, earning Rainforest Alliance certification for its conservation-focused approach.

Located at 1550 metres above sea level, this coffee is grown in optimal conditions for slow cherry maturation. After the region was cleared of landmines by the UN in the late 1980s, Octavio committed himself to restoring the land and rebuilding coffee production from 1994 onwards, transforming the farm into a model of quality-driven and responsible agriculture.

This lot is made up of Red Catuai and processed using the natural (dry) method, enhancing sweetness, body, and depth. In the cup, it delivers a rich and indulgent profile, with layered notes of cherry liqueur, praline, and caramelised apple. The texture is round and smooth, with a comforting sweetness and balanced structure.

The farm supports 60 permanent workers and up to 150 seasonal pickers during harvest, providing proper facilities and meals, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility alongside quality production.
