Tanzania Ngorongoro - vibrant, sweet and versatile
Grown at 1,650–1,820 metres on the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, this coffee comes from one of Tanzania’s most remarkable natural settings. Edelweiss Estate borders an indigenous forest where elephants, buffalo and other wildlife live alongside the coffee plantations.
The Vohora family acquired Edelweiss in 1969 and has cultivated coffee in this region for three generations. The estate maintains areas of natural vegetation and tree cover to protect the surrounding ecosystem. Its work also supports the local community by helping schools build classrooms, providing safe childcare for employees’ children and offering apprenticeships in mechanics, carpentry, welding and bookkeeping.
This lot combines hand-picked Bourbon and Kent cherries selected at optimal ripeness. The cherries spend two days pre-fermenting in airtight tanks before being pulped, fermented again, fully washed and dried on raised African beds. This careful process enhances their natural sweetness while preserving the coffee’s clarity and vibrancy.
In the cup, balanced citrus acidity brings to mind refreshing lemonade, complemented by gentle almond sweetness and a pleasant malty finish. Its smooth texture and structured profile make it equally enjoyable as filter coffee or espresso.
Tasting notes: lemonade, almond and malt, with balanced acidity, a smooth texture and lingering sweetness.
