Blackberry, Vanilla, Raspberry, Milk Chocolate
Kiriaini is an exceptional coffee grown in the highlands of Muranga, Kenya, where 571 smallholder farmers deliver their cherries to the Kiraini Factory, part of the Thikagiki Cooperative. Established in 1974, the factory serves as a vital hub, providing essential processing and marketing services to its dedicated members.
Located at 1,700 to 1,900 meters, these farms cultivate primarily SL28 and SL34, varieties renowned for their deep root structure and ability to thrive in Kenya’s nutrient-rich volcanic soil. In addition, Batian and Ruiru 11, newer disease-resistant cultivars, contribute to both resilience and flavor complexity. With each farmer tending an average of 200 to 300 trees, meticulous care is taken at every stage, ensuring only the ripest cherries are harvested.
Using the fully washed process, cherries undergo fermentation before being carefully washed and dried on raised beds. This traditional method enhances the coffee’s clean, crisp acidity and layered fruit notes, creating a distinctive and memorable cup.
Tasting Notes:
A lively and fruit-forward coffee bursting with juicy blackberry and raspberry notes, softened by hints of vanilla and creamy milk chocolate. The cup is balanced yet vibrant, delivering the signature complexity and brightness that make Kenyan coffees so sought after.
